Older cats with medical conditions

Older cats still have a zest for life, but it’s possible they’ve developed some conditions in their nine lives.

When applying for a quote, we’ll ask you about their pre-existing conditions* as well as some questions about their current health.

If you’re switching to Petsure from another provider, your cover could start immediately**.

Some of the conditions that are often seen in senior cats include arthritis, dementia, and heart disease.

Product facts

Choosing to take out older cat insurance could help you feel prepared for vet bills that result from accidents or unexpected illness.

Towards their twilight years, cats can lose some of their street smarts (though try telling them that) and be prone to infections and chronic illnesses.

The cost of older cat insurance depends on a number of factors such as your cat’s age, breed, pre-existing conditions, as well as where you live.

Our lifetime pet insurance for older cats covers vet fees up to the limit you choose each year. Other benefits include behavioural treatment, emergency care, and dental accident cover.

There’s also the option to add on extras such as farewell cover, dental illness, missing pet, and travel and holiday cover.

Check your policy wording carefully for any inner limits, policy conditions, or exclusions.

Our standard lifetime cat insurance includes treatment for dental accidents up to your chosen vet fee limit. You can then extend your cover to include dental illness, up to a maximum of £5,000 or your vet fee limit (whichever is lower).

Some other providers don’t cover dental illness or won’t offer a policy for older cats when they reach a certain age, but this depends on the individual provider and the policy type you choose.

Your older cat’s breed does influence if you can be covered by us and other providers, as well as how much you will pay each month for your policy.

This is due to certain breeds being at a higher risk of developing specific genetic conditions.

You can choose farewell cover as an optional add on to your policy. This includes death from accidental injury or illness and cremation or burial.

Letting go of your formidable feline is never easy. You deserve the space to mark their passing without fretting over the costs.

If you’re ever faced with the difficult loss of your older cat, know that you are not alone. We’ve partnered with Blue Cross to give you bereavement support when you need it most.

You have access to a dedicated support number and can speak with trained volunteers 365 days a year, from 8.30am to 8.30pm. Find the Petsure support number in your MyPetsure account or via our claims team.
