Puppies with medical conditions

Even puppies can develop illnesses, and this can happen before they become a member of your family.

When applying for a quote, you’ll need to tell us about their medical conditions* and answer some questions about their current health.

Some of the conditions that puppies can develop include diarrhoea and vomiting.

Product facts

Puppy insurance could give you peace of mind when the unexpected happens and you need to pay out a lump sum for vet treatment.

Puppies have weaker immune systems than most adult dogs and are still growing and developing. This puts them at a higher risk of accidents and getting sick or injured.

The cost of puppy insurance depends on different factors, including your puppy’s breed, age, if they have pre-existing conditions, and where you live.

Our puppy insurance covers vet fees up to your policy limit each year. Other benefits include complementary treatment, emergency care, and dental accident cover.

You can also choose additional add ons like missing pet cover, dental illness, travel and holiday cover, and farewell cover.

Check your policy wording carefully for any inner limits, policy conditions, or exclusions.

You can take out puppy insurance from 4 weeks of age. Puppies are adventurous and love to explore.

So getting cover sooner rather than later means that you can be prepared for any accidents that could result in vet bills.

Not with a Petsure policy. To take out pet insurance with us, you need to take your puppy for routine check-ups to maintain your cover. Like us, many insurers also won’t cover the cost of any puppy vaccinations.

As part of your insurance, you’ll get cover for illness and accidental injury to your puppy each year as long as you continue to renew your policy.

Our standard dog insurance includes treatment for dental accidents up to your chosen vet fee limit. You can then extend your cover to include dental illness, up to a maximum of £5,000 or your vet fee limit (whichever is lower).

Some other providers don’t cover dental illness but this depends on the individual provider and the policy type you choose.

The breed of your puppy does affect whether we (and other insurers) will offer cover and how much you pay for this each month.

This is because some breeds are at a higher risk of developing certain genetic illnesses.
